When Worship is Over, the Service Begins

WELCOME TO ZION! The family of Zion welcomes you to worship this morning, and are glad to have this opportunity to do so with you. Please sign the Ritual of Friendship when it is passed down your pew so that we can acknowledge our time together. If you would like to learn more about Zion or what Lutheran Christians believe, please indicate that on the Ritual form, or speak with Pastor at the door. You may also wish to call the church office during regular business hours which are 8:00 ~ 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. till noon. (419-994-4601).

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! On this wonderful Mother's Day, we lift up all mothers in our prayers to God. May the Holy Spirit grant them joy and peace. All of our Mothers will be receiving a carnation this morning so don't forget to pick yours up!

THIS IS PENTECOST SUNDAY! This morning we celebrate the third major festival of the church year...Pentecost. According to Acts 2 the disciples and those who followed Christ were gathered in the upper room where they had celebrated the last supper with their Lord when the Holy Spirit, in the form of tongues of fire, descended upon them. This was the moment when the followers were empowered by that Spirit and burst through the doors and into the streets to begin proclaiming Jesus as Lord! This is the day we traditionally celebrate as the birth of the church. So, Happy Birthday!

THE GERANIUMS that you purchased will adorn the altar next Sunday at the 10:15 a.m. confirmation service. Seven members of the second year confirmation program will be affirming their baptism next Sunday. They are: Nelson Bandy; Kristina Clady; Lauren Teiga; Emily Heffelfinger; Nate Scarberry; Andrea VanSickle; and Christian Leitenberger. Please come and welcome them "as workers with us in the Kingdom of God".

ZOIE ELIZABETH LOZIER the daughter of Ronald and Joan (nee. Baldner) Lozier will be baptized at the 10:15 a.m. worship service this morning. Please welcome her as our newest member and child of the Kingdom of God! Her sponsor is Betty Taylor Young.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS are given this morning by Esther Smith and Andrea Arnholt to the Glory of God and in memory of Nelly May Kick.

LARGE PRINT COPIES of this morning's service are available. See one of the ushers if you need a copy.

THE COFFEE CART is open in the Narthex on Sunday morning. Please take time to stop by to pick up a cup as you head for class.

THE SPRING RING will be held this evening at Zion in the sanctuary. The Celestial Chimes, Freedom Ringers, and Ju-Bell-Ation Choirs will present this wonderful annual program at 7:00 p.m.

THE CRY ROOM ABOVE THE OVERFLOW IS NOW OPEN for parents and infants to use during the service. The Little Lambs Nursery in the basement is supervised and is available as usual for children five years and under.

THE ZION NURSERY is in the process of being reorganized. We want to operate on an 8 ~ 10 week rotation. We need to have 2 adults/older teens (past confirmation age) to help staff the new nursery. If you are interested, there will be a list for you to sign on the bulletin board across from Pastor's office. We want to thank the Church and Community and the Parish Education Committees for working together to help make this a reality. Please give prayerful consideration to making this happen.

THE MINA POWELL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS are available to be picked up in the church office. All first and second year college students are urged to apply.

CONFIRMATION (AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM) will be held on the 18th of May at the 10:15 a.m. worship. That is the Sunday we will display the geraniums in the chancel and altar areas in honor of that special day of commitment by our young people.

THE ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDY continues today, May 11th, 2008 led by our MIC student, Bill Leitch. He will be focusing on how we witness to our faith and tell our stories of God's activity in our lives. This is part of the overall theme for this year, "One Mission...Many Voices", and deals specifically with our call to take the Gospel that has been given us, and share it as "good news" with others. We hope that you will take part in the class. It will be a good one!
